Hackers break into largest jobs site Monster.Com

Looking for a job online? Forget about Monster.com!

Jobseekers who have uploaded their resumes to Monster.com now have even more cause for concern as the website has been hit by hackers stealing as many as 1.6 million resumes and other information, a Symantec researcher has discovered.

As per webindiabuzz report, Internet security firm Symantec Corp. reported the security breach on Sunday after discovering a computer worm called Infostealer.Monstres on the Internet.

The worm is disguised as an e-mail from Monster.com that asks job seekers to download a new Monster job tool. When a person downloads that file, the worm gets automatically installed.

It then uses the person’s Internet connection to log into Monster.com’s servers and look for resumes and other personal information that it can steal. All of the personal information is uploaded to an Internet server monitored by the hackers.

Aside from using the information to target more job seekers, there is no evidence to suggest that the personal information mined from Monster.com has been used for identity theft.
