Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag - Review
Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, the much awaited movie of the year 2007 has hit the cinema halls today. This is so called as an “inspired” movie of a mega block buster the Sholay, a 1975 classic and the biggest hit in the Indian cinema history.
Though the film was largely promoted as Ramu’s Sholay but due to some leagal unsettlements with the Sippy’s, the copy write holder of the movie Sholay is now releasing as RGV Ki Aag.
Ramu famous for his dark and stylish films has presented this great extravaganza with all kinds of bollywood masala to make this movie spicy and commercially viable on the same pattern as the original Sholay was.
Coming to the Aag, this movie carries the same frame work as that of the original Sholay but it has now been modernized. The Gabbar, now Babban resides in city as compared to the Ramgarh. Even the Basanti Has now shifted to an auto leaving her Dhanno.
The film also has all the characters like Veeru, Jai, Thakur, Mausi, Soorma Bhopali, kalia and the most famous Samba but all in different shades and names too again due to legalities. Sholay was unmatched and even it’s Sippy’s were not able to repeat there success story. Will Ramu would be able to rise the same horse of success the once Sippy’s has ridden that time will tell.
Well coming back to movie, initial reviews suggest that RGV had tried to be different from original one in some famous scenes and dialogs like Veeru’s suicide attempt and tera kya hoga kalia etc. but he failed to recreate the chemistry of Veeru and Jai friendship in this case its Heeru and Raj.
Ramu has given a dangerous but stylish look to Amitabh, his Gabbar ( Babban) but looks like he will not be able to create such impact that you can hear Beta so ja nahi to Babban aa jayega.
As an actor Mohan Lal and Ajay Devgan are superb and even new comer Prashant Raj and Sushmita are also good in the movie but who has seen original Sholay will find difficult to erase the original ones from their minds.
Overall its for sure that movie is brilliantly shot but as compare to original Sholay ,fails to fulfill expectations.

It can easily win the award for the Worst Film in the History of Indian Cinema. RGV should be banned from film making.
